The Shadow Alliance’s in-house doctor, Arsen is also one of its founders and a retired elite who experiments with poisons for fun. He was once known as “the Winter Wind” to most other B-daplayers of his time and struck terror into many a B-Center combatant, and to this day he cuts an intimidating figure within the Shadow Alliance’s halls, terrifying recruits and elites alike.
Meticulous to a fault, he keeps extensive journals about his life and manages a wide intelligence network both within and without the Shadow Alliance. He claims to be the creator of the Shadow Alliance subgroup the Hounds of Chaos. Until it was won from him by Gray, Arsen was the bearer of the Wind Stone.
Among the poisons he developed, one of these was a neurotoxin applied locally that was intended to paralyze enemies’ hands. Though its use was limited to torturing captives during Arsen’s time within the Shadow Alliance, the Neo-Shadow Alliance would later take it and put it to use in Marda-B’s war.
Cardinal Storm: Arsen’s special attack. Boreas gathers power in its barrel, then fires an icy B-daball across the field that freezes its own trail. The attack also creates a flurry of winds around the field.
Wind-attuned: As a wielder of the Wind Stone for over a decade, Arsen’s body has grown attuned to changes in the wind, and he is also able to manipulate it in small amounts to carry sound further.
B-daman
Boreas
A white and light blue B-daman with icicle-like spikes on its armor. It has a slot on its head for an emblem, added there by the Wind Stone.
Affiliation: Shadow Alliance (former), Army of Chaos (current)
Arsen was a former officer of the Shadow Alliance, the formidable Lord Winterwing. He specialized in manipulating temperature aspects of the wind and a little of sound. He was feared both within and without the Shadow Alliance.
He survived the Shadow Alliance’s forced disbandment, and would go on to join the Army of Chaos, where he would be reunited with Nanashi. With all his prospects dead, he agreed to marrying her at her request. He would then join her in her assignment to sow discord across the upper levels of Vega City.
Arsen’s fate in the primary timeline is unambiguous like all other B-daplayers. As in most timelines where he survives the disbandment of the Shadow Alliance, Nanashi found him and they began to travel together. During the Neo Shadow Alliance’s attacks around the world, they were discovered by soldiers while en route to Neon City. Arsen was turned to stone in the ensuing battle, sacrificing himself to allow Nanashi to get away.
Branch Timelines
In certain timelines, Arsen was able to break through the B-daspirit draining process using his own B-daspirit, allowing him to survive. However, his mind was severely damaged in the process, causing him to lose much of his cognitive ability. Consumed by guilt due to his sacrifice, Nanashi swore to care for him for the rest of her days after this.
Miscellaneous Worlds
Flowers Bloom Until They Rot
In this verse, Arsen was never a member of the Shadow Alliance. Instead, he was only Ababa’s childhood sweetheart. He was present when Marda-B mind-controlled Ababa, shouting his name. He would not see Ababa again for another 40-50 years.
He barely hung onto his job as a doctor in this verse, which brought him to Laiken for a conference. He received an unsigned letter telling him to go to the Yong-Fa residence, where he found Ababa sitting on the porch. Once they recognized each other, Ababa’s memories returned and they were properly reunited.
Arsen regards Ababa as his oldest friend, a feeling that is mutual, despite their covert attempts to kill each other and treating it as a dance. As co-founders of the Shadow Alliance, they make for a formidable pair.
The woman who stole his heart during his travels, Arsen spent long years dreaming of reuniting with her. He tries not to think of how she left him with their child to raise alone.
Though they began as merely his annoying co-worker and subordinate in the Shadow Alliance clinic, Naptha quickly became a dear friend and lover to Arsen. He expertly hides it, but their disappearance in many verses heavily haunts him. Should he live past the disbandment of the Shadow Alliance, Arsen goes on a journey to find them again.
An unusual pair, Nara and Arsen grew up flirting with each other, but Arsen’s interests soon lay in Ababa solely and Nara married someone else (now deceased). Through Ababa’s manipulations, a rift has grown between them and they have not spoken in many years.
Arsen’s greatest enemy. Though Arsen had befriended him and his husband, he chose to go through with killing Rosair’s husband, one of his assassination marks, in a particularly cruel manner. Rosair took revenge upon Arsen, leading to a hateful dance between them that lasts to this day.
Arsen’s unplanned child with Ababa that both decided to keep. While both spoiled her, they also chose to raise her as an elite agent of the Shadow Alliance, ensuring she knows no other life but the way of the shadow.
Arsen’s eldest child with Nara from one of their only tyrsts. Unfortunately, Arsen is completely unaware of her existence as her impending birth was one of the reasons Ababa became more controlling toward Arsen. Nara elected to raise Friya on her own, and she has since become a powerful agent for the Shadow Alliance in her own right.
Arsen’s child with Nana, whom she left behind with Arsen, asking him to raise Yannes into a powerful B-daplayer. Unwilling to raise any children at all, he left Yannes with the Shadow Alliance Orphanage. Yannes still learned of their relationship, and grew into a powerful mage and B-daplayer obsessed with his father.
Arsen’s child with Naptha, who was carrrying her when they disappeared. Though initially unaware of her birth, in verses where Arsen survives and has the chance to meet her, he very quickly becomes fond of her and actively tries to be a better father to her than he has been to his other children.
