Avicinda alighted upon the grassy clearing floor, sheathing his trainee’s sword as the final Esseling dissipated to nothing. The dark creatures have been plentiful lately, forcing him to train on them in this place he still held close to his heart.

“My, you’ve been training hard.”

Avicinda whirled around. “Wish Master! It’s not safe here.”

Chigda chuckled and drew closer. “You need not worry about me, my dear Avicinda.”

Then he grasped the hilt at Avicinda’s waist, drew the sword, and slashed at something behind Avicinda in a single motion.

“I was a Paladin myself, you know,” he said, smiling.
